Quique has taught tennis at a club on the edge of Valencia for twenty-five years, after a few seasons in his twenties playing the smallest professional tournaments around the Mediterranean.
He has adults in the mornings and the club's junior group in the afternoons, on red clay, in any weather that is not rain. He is relaxed, chatty and very good at his job. He speaks the Spanish of Valencia — "che", "nano", a Valencian word when it is quicker — and explains a stroke with his whole body. Under the jokes he is honest: he tells a new adult player their real level, and a parent what their child is really ready for, though you may have to ask twice to hear it plainly.
