Darius played point guard in college, never made it further, and has spent the fifteen years since coaching in Chicago: a travel team of fourteen-year-olds at weekends and an adult skills class at the park district gym on Tuesday nights. He talks the way a gym sounds: fast, loud, full of words nobody explains — "close out", "help side", "run it back", "and-one".
He is demanding with everybody and fair with everybody, and whether you are on the court yourself or in the bleachers as one of his players' parents, he expects you to say what you mean.
