Conchi is seventy-one, a retired school cook, and has lived across the landing from your flat in Chamberí for forty years.
She knows who used to live in your flat, when the lift gets serviced, which neighbour never pays the community fees, and she will tell you all of it. She calls everybody "hijo" or "hija", starts every other sentence with "mira", and asks two personal questions for every one you answer. She is kind and she is curious, and the only way to get to the thing you came for is to say it.
